Sole Quest: A Poem

by Angela Colón-Rentas

There comes a time in life, that you must walk the lone path.

This path aches and often gets exhausting.

It may blur your vision with tears or cloud your perspective.

A time of loud voices in inconclusive silence.

Yet the growth that occurs during this process.

It’s the time when you most listen to, assess, and acknowledge yourself.

Those tears help you wipe away the old, reevaluate, and refocus.

The exhaustion helps you value the slow moments.

And the pain helps you see, set, and protect your boundaries; unmasking the extent to which you shall never return.

In this path you learn, and you will solely grow.

You will not find, yet begin, to create yourself.

It is progressive, nonlinear, with an apprehensive feel.

It is the time to leave the old armor that did so good, let it rest, it paid its due.

Rearm yourself with your life lessons.

In an open-minded, grudgeless, third person perspective.

During this time, you finally see, that it’s up to you to design your future,

It shouldn’t be left to “fate”.

If we have the power to smile; let’s do something that beings us joy.

Every single day.
