The Network kicked off this month with our quarterly Advisory Council meeting welcoming our new members. Spring brings renewal and likewise, the infusion of the energy and diversity of perspectives of the newest participants added to the rich soil which has been nurtured and tended by our existing members. A primary goal of the Advisory Council this year was to intentionally bring variety of experience to the table, and we are excited to introduce our full Advisory Council in the coming weeks.
The focus on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging must be an ever-present focus of our trauma-responsive work and we are reminded of this very clearly in the month that celebrates both Pride and Juneteenth. What I was reminded of again during the Advisory Council meeting is how much we all benefit when the room includes a wide range of life experience. In that microcosm, we had a breadth of understanding informed by all the identities present. And while that was a good starting point, what brought depth to our discussion was that all identities were welcomed and embraced. This is the intersection of trauma responsive and equity focused work.
I know that this is a beginning and not an ending. Collectively, we have much more work to continue to do together as we work towards healing and the creation of a world where everyone can thrive. We ended the meeting with this quote by H.E. Luccock – “No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.” Together, instruments in hand, we can take the score to new heights.

The TRUST 2.0 (Trauma Responsive Understanding Self-Assessment Tool 2.0) for organizations and TRUST-S (Trauma Responsive Understanding SelfAssessment Tool for Schools) are strength-based self-assessment tools that provide organizations and schools with a “snapshot” of their progress toward becoming more trauma-informed. Through the TINRC, there is no cost for NYS organizations and schools to create an account, take the surveys, download reports, and request a 1-hour virtual consultation session to assist with further understanding report results and using the findings to take next steps.
Our new and improved TRUST 2.0/TRUST-S webpage will be live on our website soon. In the meantime, you can register for a TRUST 2.0 or TRUST-S webinar here to learn more!

Have you ever worked with someone who feels they aren’t being appreciated for the work they are doing? Maybe they are feeling overwhelmed and run down or they just don’t think anyone is recognizing them for their hard work. Then you talk with their supervisor and the supervisor feels they are telling the person all the time that they are doing a good job… So where is the disconnect?
Happy Pride Month! During June, we’d like to feature mental health resources that can help us to support LGBTQ+ youth.
