One of the most rewarding aspects of being a part of theNYS Trauma-Informed Network and Resource Center has been the people I continue to meet along the journey. I thrive on sitting down with someone, learning their story and hearing about their work. The sense of shared passion is contagious and sparks my imagination as to what is possible.
That experience was recently amplified at our quarterly Advisory Council meeting which included our full slate of members with representatives from across the state, sectors, experience, and personal identities. I am thrilled to be able to formally introduce them to you through our new page on the website. Please take some time to meet the council as I am certain you too will experience a spark and perhaps want to connect.
And we are all about connection in the upcoming months. This month we kick off our first TINRC on Tour session meeting with folks in the Western Region (Livingston and Allegany counties). These meetings are an opportunity for the Network to learn more about the trauma informed work underway across the state and to hear directly about how we can support and amplify that work. If you are interested in learning more about these sessions, please contact Josh Higgins at jhiggins@ccsi.org.
Most importantly, we hope to see you at the 2nd Annual Join the Journey conference in October in Saratoga Springs. This promises to be another “fill your cup” experience through learning, connecting, and restoring. Save the dates on your calendar as registration opens soon.
In this season of growth, may you too enjoy the fruit of all your efforts as well as the opportunity to rest and relax.

In recent years, there has been greater recognition and acknowledgment of the unique challenges that Black women face in the workplace, as well as a deepening awareness of the subsequent impact of these challenges on their wellbeing (see Dickenson, 2018; O’Neil, 2024). The tragic death by suicide of Lincoln University’s VP of Student Affairs, Dr. Candia-Bailey, earlier this year, bought to public view the hardships that Black women often face as they traverse their professional journey as well as the detrimental and even tragic impact this can have on their mental health (Lawrence, 2024). While Dr. Bailey’s story garnered national attention, many Black women, including myself, carry untold stories of trauma, wounds, and scars that they amass as they rise the ranks professionally.
