My smartphone just alerted me that it is time to “drink more water”. I am writing this on January 12 and why doesn’t my so called “smart” phone know that I abandoned that resolution nine days ago. I dutifully logged in every glass of water I drank for three whole (okay, two and a half) days watching the outline of the human on my screen fill up. Day 1 – “got to the neck – good job!” Day 2 – “filled it up to the waist – this is hard!” Day 3 – “this is not as fun as I thought it would be.” Resolutions – seemingly big or small – are hard to keep. Lots of strategies are offered in the weeks before and after the new year – apps to assist, hacks to keep on track, etc. The messaging all around us is CHANGE! And change has its place – as it is said, it is the only constant. However, the underlying message of CHANGE can be that something is flawed or wrong with you, that something needs to be fixed. And then this quote popped up in a social media feed “Every year you make a resolution to change yourself. This year, make a resolution to be yourself.” – Author Unknown. I could physically feel a release as I read the words and allowed them to sink into my mind and body. Drinking 64 oz. of water a day while keeping me well hydrated, is not going to make me a better person. However, showing up as my full self, authentically for my family, friends, co-workers and most importantly myself, will make a difference. What defined last year for the NYS TINRC was the way in which everyone showed up. When I think about the year ahead for the NYS TINRC, I recognize that this continues to be our greatest asset. We need YOU, as you are, in this moment – your truth, your gifts and talents, your presence is enough. I am truly grateful to all the beings who make up this Network. With growth and gratitude,
– Elizabeth
