I love to travel. Whether it is a day trip or multi-day adventure, there is nothing like the buzz of setting off on a journey. There are times when I crave the ease of going somewhere where I have been before – to walk familiar pathways where I know what to expect, who I am likely to meet and even what to pack. At other times, the unknown calls me and I set off for a new destination. This takes a different level of preparation as I sit down with a guidebook, learning about what to see, local customs, and the language (or at least a few key phrases). This type of travel can take more effort, comes with less certainty, and at the same time can be very rewarding.
Over the past three years, the NYS Trauma Informed Network and Resource Center has grown both in terms of our offerings and size of the network. Like many journeys, we started off by reaching out to people and organizations we knew. From there, we’ve had the opportunity to make many new connections with folks in different regions, sectors, and communities. As we enter our fourth year, we are ready to journey further to make new connections – whether that be a physical location, group, or industry.
As TINRC sets off to new destinations, I feel the same buzz that I associate with travel – what new relationships will we make, what will we learn, and what can we share? Because ultimately, we are all on a journey towards a time and place where all New Yorkers and their communities can attain wellness and resiliency, and systems have the tools to support healing from toxic stress and trauma.
May our paths cross in 2026!
In gratitude,
Elizabeth

Make meaningful, trauma-responsive changes
Every scar tells a story. Some are visible, others are hidden deep within us — but all are reminders that we have survived. My personal journey is filled with both pain and purpose. I became a teen mom, battled addiction, and spent years in and out of jail. My self-defeating behaviors uprooted my family and left behind emotional scars that took years to face.
I’m elated to announce Stop 3 on my Inner Landscape Map: this embodiment meditation! The inspiration for this meditation comes from my own practice, a space where I’ve learned to pause, breathe, and be present.
As organizations work to advance trauma-informed and equity centered cultures, organizational wellness becomes both a moral responsibility and a strategic leadership practice.
Wellness is not an add-on—it is foundational to staff sustainability, service quality, and community impact.
