In this workshop, attendees will gain insights into creating environments where physical punishment is unequivocally unacceptable. The workshop will focus on an intervention known as No Hit Zones, which are institutional policies that promote intervention by bystanders when parents hit, or threaten to hit, their children. Ms. LeBlanc will briefly review the research supporting both the need for prevention and the effectiveness of No Hit Zones as an inexpensive and simple solution that bystanders can use to safely intervene and diffuse situations. No Hit Zones are a promising way of communicating the harms of corporal punishment, and moreover, the concept extends beyond the confines of the home, encompassing hospitals, schools, advocacy centers, home visiting programs, youth-serving agencies, and public spaces. Attendees will have access to No Hit Zones policies, signage, and Painless Parenting materials, and will learn how to effectively implement a No Hit Zone in their institution or community.
