Never Look Away (NLA) Asynchronous Trauma Training Program

The Trauma Systems Therapy Training Center at New York University Grossman School of Medicine is excited to invite you to participate in the next Never Look Away Trauma Training Program (NLA) series starting in May! Unlike previous NLA trainings, our May series is offered in asynchronous format with the curriculum content available through the e-learning platform, Brightspace. We offer NLA in this format so that participants can learn NLA at their own pace by their own schedule.  

What is Never Look Away? 

NLA is a unique, engaging, case-based trauma training program providing practical guidance on such topics as assessment, intervention strategy, family engagement, and risk management for even the most challenging cases.  Centered on a series of animated videos describing the care of two traumatized children, NLA engages participants to consider:  

• How trauma leads to problems bringing children and families to care 

• How assessment can be conducted to discover personalized, practical, and effective intervention strategies  

• How even the hardest-to-engage children and families can be engaged in care 

• How safely can be established and maintained while working with children who are at risk of being harmed or harming others 

• How practitioners can take care of themselves while facing the challenges that caring for traumatized children and their families often entails   

 This training is for professionals and trainees in child-serving systems (mental health therapists/counselors, clinical care coordinators, case workers, social workers, other school staff, state agency staff, legal advocates, etc.) to improve their knowledge and skill for helping traumatized children and their families, especially when the clinical problems requiring care are complex or involve high risk for harm.  

This program will run for 6-weeks, from May 2, 2025, through June 13, 2025, with participants completing two modules per week. The curriculum consists of training videos, quizzes, and participation in online discussion forums at the participant’s own pace. Live interactive virtual Zoom sessions with participants and NLA faculty will be help each week to discuss the NLA modules covered that week. The price is $200 for the course for professionals. In collaboration with the NYU Silver School of Social Work, 16.5 Continuing Education (CE) credits are available to eligible professionals for $25 upon completion of the course.
